The Best of Bloomsburg- Fog and Flame Coffee House

Did you know that the very first known coffee house in the world was established in 1475 in Istanbul, Turkey? Its name was “Kiva Han '' and its purpose served for more than just coffee. Kiva Han was known as a place where intellectuals, politicians, poets, writers and more shared ideas and interests. When people think of a “coffee house” they only think of a place that serves coffee but they don’t realize the simplicity and tranquility that comes from a coffee house’s environment. In the present day we now have coffee houses all over the world. College students specifically appreciate the variety of shops Bloomsburg has because that’s where a lot of people get most of their work done. A Bloomsburg favorite is known as “Fog and Flame” and it has everything one would hope for in a local coffee house.

When approaching Fog and Flame there are a few outdoor tables that are used mostly on nice, hot summer days. As people walk through the door a bell chimes letting the barista know that there are customers on the way over. On the left are a few chairs and couches and on the right there are tables. In the middle of the shop is the counter where everyone orders and where the pastries are kept on display. The walls are covered with art and some charming decorations. The lighting is kind of dark which adds to the overall aesthetic. It can make a rainy day feel nicer.

Think about a gloomy morning, dark clouds and wind traveling at 30 mph pushing bushes against glass windows. It’s starting to rain and the clouds are quivering. You set forth on your expedition to your favorite coffee house at the heart of your college town, Fog and Flame. You put on your baby blue windbreaker and the worn out scarf your grandmother made for you and walk down the main street concrete. You finally make it to the doors of Fog and Flame awaiting the sight of your favorite auburn leather couch. When you open the door you're accompanied by the chime of the bell attached to the top of the door frame. You then look to your left and see the auburn chair vacant and free to use. The barista is waiting at the counter to take your order so you go up and order a medium hot chai latte. After getting your coffee you stroll over to your couch and begin your studying process. You feel at ease sitting in the Fog and Flame coffee house.

The locally well-known coffee shop has been open and operating in Bloomsburg for more than 10 years now. Their first day open was June 3, 2013. Since then, they’ve opened their doors to everyone, especially college students! There have been late night coffee fixings for studiers and open mic nights for people who want to sing some of their favorite songs. Fog and Flame also offers specials on holidays to introduce some temporary new flavors. The options are endless with all of the coffees, teas, pastries, and more to choose from.

While talking to a few customers about their experiences at Fog and Flame, they all explained how they liked the ambiance and how it felt very cozy and friendly. Specifically, a friend of mine, Lauren Kalinowski, said with enthusiasm, "I like the outdoor seating and the art and lights decorating the inside, it all adds to the nice ambiance." When asking why she likes to go there she responds with, "It's a nice quiet place where I can do my homework. I don't always like going to the library because it's not very comforting." Overall, most people seem to go to Fog and Flame to study and get a good quality cup of coffee.

Fog and Flame coffee house is the most popular in town for several reasons, but specifically people seem to like it's aesthetic and the different varieties of drinks they can choose from the most. With all of that being said, there's a lot to appreciate in the town of Bloomsburg, but it seems like the front-runner would be Fog and Flame coffee house.
