Twilight- All About the Fans
Twilight- All About the Fans
Intro-
The Cullen Family |
The fandom usually goes by "Twerds" as a combination of "Twilight" and "nerds". The main thing that you think of when you think of fandom is usually the merchandise, this also includes some merchandise that is made from memes that have surfaced from different events that happened in the movie, that the said fans will wear to show their love to the series. These are just some examples:

A lot of fans show their love for the series in the aesthetic that the movie has as well. This includes rainy weather, certain clothes, converse, and usually some song out of the soundtrack of the film to show different things throughout their day. The creators of these videos are typically used to show the "quiet moments" during their day.
The fan fics-
Following the series being released were hundreds to thousands of fan fiction that were soon to be written often about alternate endings to the series or specific movies. These can range from short stories that fans post to various websites to fully published books. Some examples of published books are Trust in Advertising, and Boycotts & Barflies, both of which are written by Victoria Micheals, and also Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard. (1) These cover Twilight with different twists or alternate endings with the same character basis. Along with this, there are countless parodies and reenactments of the movie with fans portraying the Twilight characters. (2)
Map of Filming locations on the West Coast |
Personally, I would say this is one of the biggest sort of aspects of the Twilight fandom. Fans have created many sites where you can plan out a road trip to visit various sites from the series including, the Cullens house, the Swan House, La Push, the diner, and many more throughout Washington and Oregon. A lot of fans will visit these places on the map and vlog them as they go. The fanbase gained so much popularity that Fork created a Twilight museum where you could go and see various costumes, props, and much more from creating the movies.
here is an example of one of the road trip maps:Olympic Peninsula- Road Trips
The Weird-
As with every fandom there always is something that people find weird or shocking. One thing that I found shocking is that another name for the fandom is "Rats" or "Ratties". This is because fans started using to term referring to Carlisle saying that vampires used to live in the London sewers. As more people used it, the term took off and now is one of the two most popular terms for the fandom. Another thing that a lot of people found shocking is that Fifty Shades of Grey is based on fanfiction of Twilight written by E.L. James as the characters of Twilight in an "alternate world". (4) Overall with every fandom, some go to extremes. One couple Abigail Kirk and Andy Weeks, as many die-hard fans had a Twilight-themed wedding; based on Breaking Dwan: Part 1, with different decor and ideas taken from the movie for their special day. Where they go more extreme is that after they got married, they decided to legally change their last name to Cullen after the Cullen family from the movie due to her not liking Andy's last name but also feeling strongly about sharing the same last name once they were married. Although a lot of people think this is crazy and they would never do this, Abigail states, “Looking back, there’s not one part of it that I would change.”(5) Although this only touched on Twilight this is something that happens across all fandoms.Bella and Edward getting married |
