Professor Venditti

Professor Venditti Office
Helpful, friendly, energetic, fun, and passionate, are the words people use to describe Professor Venditti. So, who is Professor Venditti? Well, she's a biology professor on the Bloomsburg Campus, but what else? What makes people describe her this way?
When reaching Professor Venditti’s office, a few students start to appear, all sitting and waiting to see her. There are always students waiting whether they want to just ask her a question about class or want to talk to her about her sperm research. Professor Venditti welcomes all her students in, even if just to ask a minor question and when that question is asked. She starts by explaining things in a calming manner, elongating her words very slowly. She will ask, “Does that make sense?” If not then she will explain it differently, even bringing out examples at times. Even if you don’t have a question about the class, students always come in and talk to her about anything whether it be about Taylor Swift, Biology, or the pictures on her wall. One student exclaims in her office,
“I got into Hopkins!”
“Yaaaaa!” Exclaims Professor Venditti.
“I wasn’t going to!” States the student.
“I told you; you should apply!” Said Professor Venditti.
Professor Venditti always tries to help her students in any way she can, whether just to give them advice or help them with a question.
The bright purple walls of her office have many pictures covering them, with pictures of her children, their artwork, and her research. Her schedule is on her door to let people know when they can talk with her. Professor Venditti has been teaching for a total of 14 years at Bloomsburg University. She exclaims, “What’s really exciting for me, is when I see the dots connect for my students; when you know, reviewing an exam or talking through notes and it’s that aha moment for them, when it finally clicks, and they understand it and can explain it and they get really excited about it. That's probably my favorite part because it is almost as if it’s a proud parent moment.” This shows how much she loves her job after all these years and doesn't want to stop teaching anytime soon. Professor Venditti teaches many different classes ranging from Principles of Biology 1 to an honors baking class she taught last semester. Lots of preparation takes place in this process, for example, grading all of the exams as well as even writing a lab manual for Principles of Biology 1.

When walking into one of her lab classes, students put their book bags on the shelf in the corner of the room and start studying their current lab. Tension is in the air due to the students wanting to make sure they get everything right. Professor Venditti walks in nonchalantly and checks her clock before reviewing the lab manual. She checks her clock again, seeming a little anxious to get started but at the same time, the students who are running in at the last minute, Professor Venditti will make sure to say that it’s okay and to take their time. Excitedly she starts with, “Greetings, happy Thursday!” Waving her hands in a fan-like motion before reminding the students of the lab exam soon. She explains a little bit about the events of today as well as questions the students, so they know what to do when performing in the lab. She moves her hands back and forth, talking with her hands in a very meaningful way. For example, she moved her hand to and from her heart as she was explaining how to perform heart sounds. Moving again with her hands gracefully back and forth. She talks loudly and strongly enunciates every word to make sure individuals can hear and understand her. When explaining valuable information she starts to slow her words, always making sure each word is clear and precise. She always checks to ensure each person has the right stethoscope, walking around and helping all the students as they need it. Reminding everyone of crucial details that could have been missed otherwise. Talking to her students making sure everyone is good before walking to the next table and continuing that theme, with her hands on her hips the whole time. When talking her powerful voice can be heard across the room, but even through that, her voice still sounds nice and helpful. She makes sure to remind her students again of some tips for the lab. For example, telling them to "pedal to the metal" on the treadmill so they can get their heart rates up. The atmosphere is very relaxed and electric with excitement for what is to come next. This just goes to show how Professor Venditti always tries to make sure her classrooms are a fun and relaxed environment while at the same time making sure students can get their work done in a timely manner.
By discussing these few things about Professor Venditti, people can see her as helpful, energetic, and friendly. It's also extremely evident how passionate she loves her work and her teaching. Professor Venditti always wants to help and if someone needs help she is there.
